Optimal .308 reloading for New Hampshire bear season? Best bullets for deep penetration in thick woods? Looking for reliable recipes for heavy game.
 
180-220gr bullets designed to penetrate deep. No need to soup them up much. You are wanting to poke holes in the vitals and hopefully pass all the way through while doing as much damage as possible. Uncle hunted bear in Michigan, this was his advice to me when I mentioned wanting to hunt bear.
 
I'd run heavy-for-caliber .308 bullets, like 165–180gr. Hardcast or bonded solids work best for thick brush. Keep powder consistent, watch for overpressure. You hunt close quarters or longer shots?
