Planning a trip to visit family and trying to figure out the best route. I'd like to bring a firearm with me, but driving through New York State complicates things quite a bit. I’ve looked into alternative routes, but avoiding NY adds a ridiculous amount of drive time. I’m curious if anyone else has dealt with this kind of situation and what you decided to do. Any tips or suggestions would really help.

Keep your gun unloaded and locked in the trunk with your license and maybe go a longer way to skip New York. I always plan my stops and double-check each state's laws

I would have a concealed carry permit from your home state. I doubt it would reciprocate with NY Laws buy it couldn't hurt. Alos your states hunting license. If you plan on going to a shoot in NY then have a flyer of the shoot your going to. +1 on the gun locked up and the ammo locked separately
and out of sight. You can travel thru NY state but stay out of NYC! Driving the speed limit and not covering your vehicle with NRA and alike stickers would be good advise. Though some would disagree, remember this is New York state and you do not want to advertise. Maybe display an old Obama bumper sticker. 🤣
