On my side of the bed I have a Stoeger 12 GA coach gun with 00 buck, and a Springfield Armory 1911 (10+1) with 230 gr LRN. My wife has a Beretta 80X 380 Auto (10+1). No kids. But we keep the guns we don't use very often in a safe.
Our 85 lb GS/Border Collie mix, Ben, who sleeps on the floor beside my wife, alerts on anything that comes near the house. If I let him out to investigate - he will kill. They're piling up: skunks, coyotes, foxes, fishers, stray dogs, and cats. He loves playing with bears.
There's not a lot of crime around in this rural area. Everyone has dogs and guns.
