Buddy tried to get me into reloading

He's showing me his setup talking about costs per round and precision loads. I'm thinking about the time investment and wondering if I shoot enough to make it worth it. For people who reload, how much do you actually shoot to justify all the equipment and time?

Reloading ammo only made sense for me once I started seeing it as a fun thing to do, not a way to save money. If you like messing around and trying new things, it’s awesome. If you just want cheap ammo fast, it’s probably not worth it.

I reload sitting on the couch with my stuff on the coffee table while my wife reads or knits. I use a Lee Hand press.

I started reloading in the 80s when I was assigned to a shore station. But the bulk of my reloading started when I retired from the Navy in 1997 and started working at home. I've made hundreds of thousands of rounds. I'll only buy factory ammo to chrony it, and then reload to reproduce it. I usually reload at less than factory velocity for 45 ACP. For 45 Colt, I reload at standard pressure (not Ruger Level). It's satisfying to shoot ammo customized for yourself.
