When i'm at a business , and i'm bored because i'm either waiting in line or because I gave somebody a ride there , and I don't actually have any business to do, i like to pass the time by shopping for ammo on my phone. I understand that the guest's Wi-Fi at most businesses Blocks any website that you can buy ammo from, but i've always gotten around that by using a vpn that I have on my phone. Twice in the last 2 days, I have encountered a place where the guest's WI.Fi does not permit you to connect to your v.P n.

I attempted to get around this by connecting to my v.P.N first , while I was still on my four g and then connecting to the wifi afterwards , but in one place that caused me to get kicked off the vpn , immediately upon connecting to the wifi at the other place , there's not enough cell phone signal for me to attempt that strategy.

Are businesses actively trying to block vpn's on their guest wifi all of a sudden?

Is this a development that I can expect to see become more common going forward?

Yeah, businesses are locking things down tighter lately. Your VPN didn’t fail, you just walked into a stricter digital bouncer.

You know, guest WiFi networks are getting really aggressive about blocking VPNs these days. Deep packet inspection just got so cheap and businesses, they just love that control. I don't see that trend reversing anytime soon, honestly.
