Everyone's putting red dots on everything now. Pistols, rifles, shotguns. I'm still using iron sights on most of my stuff and doing fine. Am I behind the times or is this red dot thing overhyped? Honest opinions wanted.

^ that said, I only have optics on a few rifles and I bought one pistol used with a red dot on it. Another new pistol has a plate for a red dot but I haven't done any research on what to buy for it.

Phillips Safety Glasses makes safety glasses with reader magnification. An optometrist friend recommended them to me many years ago. They make them from 1.0 - 3.0 power. They are far cheaper than prescription glasses as you may need a different power for handguns and rifles/shotguns. I have 2 pair, one for shooting handguns and one for shooting rifle. I prefer to shoot open sights and these work for me. They may not be for everyone. They are at:

Sounds like you're taking a practical approach instead of chasing trends these days.

That’s interesting, might be worth trying before committing to optics
